Disaster Risk Management
UN-Habitat Disaster Risk Management Programmes assist the governments and local authorities prepare and mitigate the risks of natural or manmade disasters. By working closely with the city / local authorities, stakeholders and community organizations the agency assists build better resilience against disaster, prepare action plans and enhance capacity towards response.
In additions to such national and regional level initiatives the agency takes in to account the necessity for incorporating Disaster Risk reduction features in promoting sustainable Human Settlements. Programmes on informal settlements upgrading, post disaster recovery of housing and infrastructure are designed with risk mitigation construction methodology. Awareness is created amongst the communities on mitigation and response, and there capacity is enhanced through action plans.
