UN-Habitat is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.
Habitat Programme Manager, Pakistan
Mr. Jawed Ali Khan has joined UN Habitat in September 2017. He has served with the Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Climate Change, Government of Pakistan for 30 years and retired as Director General Environment and Climate Change. He remained National Focal point for several Environmental and Climate Change Treaties and Conventions as well as served as Projector Director for many GEF, World Bank and UNDP projects including One UN Program component on Policy and Planning.
He retired in 2013 from the Ministry and since then is working with various UN Agencies as Technical expert including UN Environment- worked as National Coordinator for developing the National Action Plan for SCP as well as the National Sustainable Development Strategy for Pakistan (NSDS ); FAO – author of REDD+ document for Pakistan, UN Habitat – author of the report on Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment of Islamabad.
Moreover, to his credit are numerous milestones including the formation of National Climate Change Policy, National Environment Policy, National Sanitation Policy, National Drinking Water Policy, National Human Settlement Policy, National Sustainable Development Policy (draft). Moreover, he has served as a National Focal Point for UNFCCC, UN-Habitat, UNEP, UNCSD and UNESCAP for more than ten years and has represented Pakistan at various international and national technical expert groups and committees.
Mr. Jawed Ali Khan possesses Post graduate degrees and Diplomas in Housing and Human Settlements Planning , Environment and Climate Change from renowned International Universities and institutions including Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Erasmus University/ IHS the Netherlands, and Tufts University, Boston, USA.
